GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR GARBAGE IS DEPOSITED AT GROUND LEVEL WITHIN 5 METRES (15 FEET) OF THE TRAVELLED PORTION OF THE STREET OR HIGHWAY FRONTING YOUR PROPERTY BY 7:00 A.M. ON THE MORNING OF THE COLLECTION. THERE WILL BE NO SECOND PICK-UP. The following items will not be picked up, at any time: a) explosive or highly combustible material of any nature; b) corrosive or toxic material; c) waste residue resulting from building construction, alterations or demolition operations (may be brought directly to the landfill sites subject to costs as set in the municipal by-law); d) carcasses or parts thereof of animals; e) any liquid wastes; f) pathological wastes; g) any hazardous substances; h) waste of any nature and kind that is prohibited for disposal at the site by reason of the provisional Certificate of Approval; i) faeces of any cat (that are not normally accumulated in a litter box situated in a dwelling), dog or fowl; j) grass clippings and leaves.** k) bio-medical waste l) automobiles, vehicles or any part thereof m) fences, fence posts, fence wire n) propane, fuel or gas tanks o) wood, unless nails have been removed or flattened and unless it is placed in bundles not more than 1.22m (4 ft) in length, width or height p) sawdust and/or shavings q) hay, straw and manure r) compostable waste **Grass clippings and leaves may be brought directly to the landfill sites at no charge. MUNICIPAL LANDFILL SITES Alfred Concession 4 (former Township of Alfred) open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents of Wards 1 and 3 (former Township of Alfred and former Village of Alfred) Plantagenet Concession 9 (Curran) open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for residents of Wards 2 and 4 (former Township of North Plantagenet and former Village of Plantagenet). A user fee based on vehicle type is charged to all residents who bring garbage to the landfill sites. However, there shall be no charge for domestic waste coming from within our municipality for the last Saturday of each month as well as for the week comprising the last Saturday of the month of May and the week comprising the last Saturday of the month of September. NO WASTE MAY BE DROPPED OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE LANDFILL SITE. Anyone witnessing littering is encouraged to report the incident at the municipal office.There will be no charge for branches and other natural waste which can be burned. TIRES: There are no fees for disposal of tires. Tires must be brought to either of the municipal dumps. Please make sure that tires are removed from the rims. RECYCLING - RECYCLING - RECYCLINGThe municipality is proud to participate in a recycling program. One free blue box per household can be picked up at the Town Hall. Additional blue boxes may be purchased for a nominal charge. Due to an ever-increasing amount of waste and in order to extend the life of our Landfill, it is becoming more important than ever to recycle.RECYCLE... IT’S EASY!
