Watershed Bulletin

South Nation Conservation is issuing a Watershed Conditions Bulletin as part of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.  The purpose of this bulletin is to provide information regarding the forecasted weather, snow cover and the potential of flooding throughout some of the low lying areas of the SNC watershed.

Currently, water levels throughout the SNC watershed are relatively normal for this time of the year; however, the region is currently experiencing normal to above normal day time temperatures and Environment Canada forecasts this trend to continue over the following week.

The warmer weather may cause ice break-up in watercourses causing nuisance flooding due to ice jams.

For more information, please contact Sandra Mancini or Jason Symington at 1-877-984-2948 extensions 223 and 230 respectively.

Additional funds were received under the Investing in Ontario Act, 2008 for a total of $ 673, 035 of which $ 240,000. was spent in 2008 to extend the works on Principale Street in Wendover. The remainder of the funds will be applied on 2009 roads or bridges works in 2009. Please revisit this site for future updates as to where the 2009 works will be made.

WENDOVER WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND INSTALLATION OF WATER METERS

In March 2007, the municipality received a 1.3 M$ grant from the provincial government under the Rural Infrastructure Investment Initiative for the replacement of the water distribution system. A low-interest loan from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities was added to this amount. Works on the distribution system was done in 2007 and 2008 by Robert Excavating.

The difference between the grant and the final costs of the contract were apportionned equally among the service users.

The municipality also proceeded with the installation of water meters during the fall of 2007 and 2008. The cost of the water meters were paid in part by a grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and by the Wendover water reserve fund.

The Alfred Friperie Kazi 9 (second hand store) is in operation to fund the Food Bank. "Thrift Store" is probably what pops into your mind when you hear the name.

Please note that the assistance provided is in the form of clothing and footwear only.  Unfortunately, the Friperie is unable to offer other items, or furniture or toys given the limited space available as well as the amount of time which would be required from the volunteers who provide their services.

We ask that you do not leave any items other than clothing or footwear in the containers or the yard of the Friperie.

If you wish to get rid of certain items you are no longer using, please bring them directly to the landfill site. There is no charge for domestic wastes on the last Saturday of each month as well as for the complete week comprising the last Saturday of the month of May and the complete week comprising the last Saturday of the month of September. Iitems such as paint, oil, etc. will not be accepted at the sites because of the certificates of approval.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

The issuance of a building permit usually creates an increase in the value of a property. Once the building permit is issued, a copy of the building permit is sent to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

Upon completion of the construction, you will receive from MPAC a notice of evaluation. At the same time, the municipality will receive the supplemental roll for all new construction and will prepare invoices for all supplementary taxes.

This process may vary from 6 months to 36 months, depending on the number of construction in a specific year. You must therefore anticipate an invoice for the new construction, starting from the date on your notice of evaluation.

For example, you might receive an invoice in 2011 for a construction completed in 2009. In that case you will be invoiced for 2009, 2010 and 2011. It is therefore important to budget a monthly amount for municipal, regional and school taxes. Also, if your new property is serviced by water and sewer, you will receive the invoices for these services starting from the date on your notice of evaluation.

For your information, the taxes for a property evaluated at $ 200,000. in 2009 are $2,713. To this amount a fee of $ 88. is added for the recycling charge, and utilities (water and sewer) if applicable. For more information concerning the taxes and the utilities, please call the municipal office in Plantagenet at 613-673-4797 and ask for the tax department.

You also have the option to pay monthly amount (pre-authorized payment), as soon as you have your occupancy permit. These amounts will be applied against future taxes and will reduce considerably the financial impact when the invoice is sent.
