The main theme of the drawing are the letters "a" and "p" which are found in the name "Alfred and Plantagenet". The two letters are placed side by side and surrounded with graphic elements to represent a plant with a leaf, two fruits and a flower. This plant symbolizes the agricultural activity of our local population then and now. The "a" and "p" essentially form the graphic details. These two distinctive elements characterize the linguistic duality of the country, but essentially highlight this phenomenon in our population. The linguistic duality has been evident since the early days. The harmony which has always been present in our collectivity is exemplary for the Canadian people. This harmony is reflected in the graphic expression of the "a" and the "p" which share the same stem. The leaf animates the drawing with a vital force. It symbolizes the vitality and growth. It has 7 grooves which represent the 7 communities known as: Alfred, Lefaivre, Treadwell, Wendover, Plantagenet, Curran and Pendleton. The graphic form at the top left adds a dignity to the other elements by suggesting either a flower, a flame or a bird. It addresses the subtlety of a population in terms of art, knowledge, spirituality, freedom, hospitality and "joie de vivre". The space between the figures reminds us of our topography, cut across by the South Nation River. The larger space reminds us of the Ottawa River which borders our territory and plays a major role in its population’’s history. It is interesting to note that the word "river" is often used in topography to designate blank space networks in text. The choice of colours is simple: green for the earth and blue for the sky. Our region is well known for its vast area which majestically unveils the canopy of heaven. The gold colour illustrates the subtle theme of the flame described above and becomes the golden thread which joins all the elements together. The horizontal line at the base frames the drawing, but also accentuates the flat surface of our territory’’s topography. The name of the municipality is written vertically, from the bottom up. This elevation upwards symbolizes the collectivity’’s magnification, growth, progression into the future and gives a modern expression to the drawing. The top and right side of the drawing are not framed by any graphic element. This further illustrates the theme of a vast area and the gateway of things to come. |
