EMPLOYMENT OFFER
CLERK

The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet requires the services of a person to fill the position of Clerk. 

JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with the Municipal Act and other provincial legislation, the Clerk performs all statutory duties and is responsible for the provision of all corporate and administrative services to ensure compliance with statutes and policies.  The Clerk ensures the management and general control of the administration and of the affairs of the municipality and provides legal advice to Council and Administration on procedures, duties and responsibilities. 

EDUCATION: Professional University Degree or the equivalent, possess a Certificate in Municipal Administration, in Law or on Parliamentary Procedures or be willing to obtain the required formation from the AMCTO program; five (5) years of experience in Municipal Administration or in a similar position; knowledge of Municipal Administration, the Municipal Act of Ontario, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as other laws, standards, regulations applicable to the Municipal sector would be considered an asset. 

LANGUAGE: Bilingual – French and English (oral and written communications).

REQUIREMENTS 

HIRING CONDITIONS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Municipal Act, the Municipal Elections Act and other acts and by-laws applicable to municipal environment.
  • Demonstrate a capacity to work under minimal supervision;
  • Ability and ease to make public presentations sometimes concerning delicate or controversial subjects;
  • Able to manage and assign employees and have knowledge of the tasks and deadlines of a Clerk’s Office;
  • Practical knowledge of the Line Fences Act;
  • Able to use a computer and be familiar with the softwares such as Excel, Word and FileHold;
  • Available to work in the evening during Council and Committee meetings.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Job conditions are those prescribed in the municipal by-law.  The salary scale for this position is under revision.

DEPUTY CLERK

The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet requires the services of a person to fill the position of Deputy Clerk. 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Clerk, the Deputy Clerk assists the Clerk in the execution of all the administrative and statutory functions as prescribed by the Municipal Act, the Municipal Elections Act and any other federal and provincial act. The Deputy Clerk coordinates and manages all the documents submitted to the municipal Council and ensures the day to day operations of the Clerk’s Office.  The Deputy Clerk looks after the preparation and distribution of the agenda, the minutes and any other document pertaining to Council meetings.  The Deputy Clerk is responsible for the management of the filing system, the conservation and retention of municipal documents.

EMPLOYMENT OFFER
BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
(full-time position)

The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet requires the services of a full time (35 floating hours of work per week) Municipal By-Law Enforcement Officer. 

JOB SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the By-Law Enforcement Officer enforces municipal by-laws of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet.  He/she ensures public safety by engaging in a variety of enforcement activities. 

EDUCATION: College Diploma in a field related to law enforcement. 

LANGUAGE: Orally/Written in French and English (Bilingual).

REQUIREMENTS - HIRING CONDITIONS: 

  • Post-secondary education, with a degree or diploma in By-Law Enforcement or Police Technology;
  • 3-5 years’ experience in enforcement;
  • Experience in supervisory or team leadership;
  • Knowledge of municipal by-laws (Property Standards By-Law);
  • Ability to use MS Office software;
  • Solid communication skills;
  • Member or prospective member of the Ontario Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association and the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers Inc.;
  • Hold a valid "G" class driving licence;
  • Good physical condition;
  • Availability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays;
  • Hold a valid first aid certificate;

Provide a criminal record check certificate.
