Call to Artists – Art at the Library

Exhibition from November 26, 2018 to January 4, 2019

The Public Library of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet invites artists interested in exhibiting at the library branches to submit an application. This “simultaneous” exhibition of five artists in the five branches of the library aims to increase awareness of the library members and the public at large about local artists and their works.

Our installations allow for the following number of works:

-        Lefaivre branch: 5

-        Alfred branch: 3 (small or medium format)

-        Curran branch: 5

-        Wendover branch: 3 (small or medium format)

-        Plantagenet branch: 5

Moreover, we offer interested artists the possibility of a presentation or mini-conference about your artistic process during the library opening hours.

The call to artists is open to artists of all levels, as long as the works respect the eligibility criteria described below.

Chosen works must be dropped off at the chosen branch during opening hours throughout the week of November 19, 2018, and picked up during the week of January 7, 2019


All forms of art are accepted, as long as they adhere to the following specifications:

  • The work must be original;
  • No reproduction will be accepted;
    • The work can address any subject matter;
    • Any wall-mounted work cannot be larger than 24 by 24 inches, with a maximum thickness of 4 inches;
    • The work must have a professional finish, for example a canvas with finished edges or frame, and all paper works must be framed;
    • The work must be wall-ready or presentation-ready:
  1. Wall-mounted work: steel line strung between two triangle hooks mounted on the top corners of the image;
  2. Written work: written piece/story/excerpt, etc., to be presented in printed format, framed;
  • The work must be appropriate for all ages;
  • Performance artists may also participate:
    • Dancers: a framed photograph of the choreography;
    • Singers/story-tellers: a framed excerpt of the text;
    • Actor/theatre: a framed photograph.

Entry Requirements

The organizers reserve the right to refuse any work that does not adhere to the eligibility criteria listed above. Any deviation from the commitments described below will disqualify the opportunity to participate in the exhibition.

1-      Current or past resident of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet*

*priority will be given to current residents of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet

2-     CONTACT: The artist form, images of proposed works, CV and brief description of the artistic process must be sent by email to Ms. Dominique Lacelle ( by the submission deadline

3-     SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday, November 2, 2018, at 4 p.m.

The artist or group agrees to:

  • Drop-off and pick-up works by the required dates.

Copyright and Reproduction

The artist or group grants the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet a non-exclusive licence to reproduce and publicly exhibit its work in order to promote the Township and its Culture Days  2018 event. The artist authorizes the Township to reproduce and to broadcast the work through its website, its Facebook page, while maintaining the artist or group information in the vicinity of the visual chosen for reproduction.
