The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet is offering Bronze Star, Medallion and Cross courses this summer at the Alfred Municipal Pool.

The aim of these courses is to prepare candidates for lifesaving and lifeguarding in emergency situations.

Registrants can submit their applications by email anytime before June 30, 2024, so long as spots are available. Payment for the course can be made either in person at the Town Hall in Plantagenet (located 205 Old Hwy 17) from June 3 and 5, 2024, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or at the Alfred pool.

Course Schedule

Classes will be held every Wednesday and Friday starting from July 5, 2023.

  • (Bronze Cross) Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.*
  • (Bronze Star and Medallion) Thursdays mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.*; and
  • (All) Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The final exam for the Medal and Bronze Cross courses is August 16, 2024. 

*The exact length of the class may vary based on class and instructor needs. The instructor will communicate the precise schedule with registered persons.

Classes will be held at the Alfred Pool, except from July 10 to 12 and 17 to 19, when classes will be held at the Plantagenet Pool.

Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross Prices

  • Bronze Star: 100$
  • Bronze Medallion: 150$
  • Bronze Cross: 160$
  • Bronze Medallion AND Bronze Cross: 285$


  • Course book: 50$

Note: Fees are not refundable if a participant needs to leave early from the lessons, unless the Township cancels the lessons or that participant has a health issue (a medical certificate will be required).
