2022 Municipal Elections

The next municipal elections to elect a mayor, councillors, and school board trustees will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022.

The Nomination Form and Endorsement of Nomination Form (25 signatures) are available online and at Town Hall at 205 Old Highway 17 in Plantagenet, from Tuesday, May 2, 2022.

The deadline for candidates to submit their Nomination Form and Endorsement of Nomination Form is Friday, August 19, 2022, at 2 p.m.

Voting Process

Voter Information Letters will be mailed by first-class mail to all Electors to enable them to use the telephone/Internet voting service.

There are three ways that you can vote:

  1. Accessing the telephone number provided on your Voter Information Letter by using a touch-tone telephone or cellular telephone, but not a rotary dial telephone.  Should the preceding be incorrectly completed, the interactive response system will provide an error message requesting that the Elector obtain assistance through the Voter Help Centre;
  2. Accessing the Internet address provided on the Voter Information Letter by using a dial modem access or a high-speed connection;
  3. Attending a Voter Help Centre during the following dates and times. Telephones, computers and/or tablets will be available:
    1. Wednesday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    2. Thursday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    3. Friday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    4. Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    5. Sunday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    6. Monday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nomination Period

Monday, May 2, 2022, to Friday, August 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

Candidates can file their nomination papers at the Town Hall during normal business hours until nomination day on August 19, 2022.

Nomination Day

Friday, August 19, 2022.

Last day for candidates to file their nomination paper at the Town Hall or to withdrawal their nominations.

Certified Nominations

Monday, August 22, 2022.

Township's Clerk shall examine each nomination before 4:00 p.m.

Thursday, September 1, 2022

Preliminary Voters' List is available for candidates and corrections/revisions begin.

Monday, September 26, 2022

A list of additions, corrections and deletions is available for candidates and corrections/revisions continue.

Election Signs

No election campaign advertisements shall be erected prior to 8:00 a.m. on September 1, 2022.

All election campaign advertisements shall be removed prior to 4:00 p.m. on October 31, 2022.

Advance Voting

Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. beginning on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and ending on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 12:00 a.m.

Voting begins at 12:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m.

ATTENTION CANDIDATES: 

In accordance with the Corporation of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet By-law Number 2018-48: 

Members of Council / candidates shall not:

  • Use their constituency office or any municipally provided facilities for any election-related purposes, which includes displaying any election-related material in the office; 
  • Use municipal equipment and/or other municipal resources for any election-related purposes, unless the municipal equipment and/or resources are available for such use by the public generally and the member of Council is receiving no special reference with respect to its use; 
  • Use the municipal voice mail system to record election-related messages; 
  • Use a cell phone which is municipally provided for their campaign purposes; 
  • Use the municipality's crest or logo in campaign material; and 
  • Print or distribute any material paid by municipal funds that illustrates that a member of Council or any other individual is registered in any election or that they will be running for office.

Joint Compliance Audit Committee for the 2022 Municipal Elections

Municipalities located within the United Counties of Prescott and Russell are recruiting experienced professionals for appointment to their 2022 Municipal Elections Joint Compliance Audit Committee. 

The Committee is independent of the municipalities and is required by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 to consider applications requesting audits of candidates' campaign finances. Committees may be required to appoint auditors and determine if legal proceedings are required as a result of the auditors' reports. 

Applicants with a background in accounting, auditing, law, election administration, and/or public administration are preferred. Applicants should: 

  • have an understanding of municipal campaign finance provisions; 

  • demonstrate analytical decision-making and excellent communication skills; 

  • have experience working with or as a member of government boards, task forces and/or quasi-judicial bodies; and 

  • have flexibility to attend meetings during daytime and evening hours. 

Applicants cannot be candidates in the 2022 Municipal Election, nor can they have committed to providing professional advice to any person running for office in any municipality located within the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Applicants also cannot be Members of Council or current employees of any municipality located within the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. 

The Committee's term of office is four years, beginning on November 15, 2022. Successful applicants will receive a retainer of $400 and a per diem of $100 (plus mileage).
