Meet our public work teams

The Public Works Department is responsible for, among other things, road maintenance.

The department’s winter maintenance program includes salting and sanding, snow plowing and snow removal. All road maintenance programs follow an approved maintenance and repair program as well as meeting set provincial standards.

Want to know when a road is closed or under construction

Municipal 511 is a tool developed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. It provides residents with information on local roads and highways. Every road closure, construction and much more is reported on the site.

Snow Removal

The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet provides winter operations for most of our roads. The Township public works department patrols, plows, and spreads de-icers. United Counties of Prescott and Russell are responsible for winter maintenance of the county roads (County Road 15, 17 and 19 for example).

Mailboxes

Standard mailboxes are replaced if damaged by Township equipment. Note that the Township does not accept responsibility for damages caused by the impact of snow on a mailbox during our regular snow plow operations. Mailboxes should be constructed to withstand the impact of snow from the snow plow operations. If your mailbox has been damaged by a snow plow, take a picture of the box and contact us.
