Plantagenet, February 2, 2024 - The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet has acquired the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 520 St-Philippe Street in Alfred.

This strategic purchase by the municipality ensures the preservation of a community hall in the heart of the village of Alfred for the benefit of the township's citizens for years to come.

"This hall has been part of the Alfred community landscape for generations. It has hosted countless shows, carnivals, banquets, weddings, bingos, family gatherings and community celebrations over the years," said Mayor Yves Laviolette. "The municipal council had a duty to preserve this meeting place, for the greater benefit of the citizens of Alfred and the Township. We would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for this opportunity and their continued cooperation".

"The Knights of Columbus are pleased to hand over this hall to the municipality. Faced with the growing workload involved in managing the community hall, the Knights wanted to collaborate with the Township to ensure efficient, long-term management of this valuable space," adds Grand Chevalier Rhéal Lalonde.

With this addition, the Township now has 6 community centers. The main hall at the Alfred Community Centre has a capacity of around 400 people. The center also has a secondary, more intimate room that can accommodate up to 69 people. Bar service is available.
