Power outages in Alfred and Plantagenet - Mayor's Update - 9:20 a.m.

Dear citizens,

The vast majority of our citizens and businesses are still without power on the morning of April 6. Hydro One's best estimate is that most of our territory will be back online by late afternoon.

In the meantime, a temporary rest centre is open at Town Hall at 205 Old Highway 17 in Plantagenet. This centre will provide you with access to restrooms, drinking water, a charging station for your electronic devices and even hot coffee. I would like to point out that our two water treatment plants (Lefaivre and Wendover) remain fully functional and the quality of the water is not affected in any way. Citizens can also access a source of drinking water at the Plantagenet Fire Hall, located behind City Hall. Bring your own containers.

Hydro service has been partially restored in the Plantagenet area. The UPI gas station and the Place 1967 motel/restaurant (across from City Hall) are open this morning. Please be patient and courteous!

As a reminder:

  • If you see downed power lines, please stay away and contact Hydro One directly: 1-800-434-1235.
  • If you see trees or branches blocking the road, please report them to the Township: 613-673-4797.

Our employees have been working well into the night to ensure our roads are clear this morning, especially for emergency vehicles. If you can, please stay home and watch out for our roadside workers. Thank you to our Public Works team for your dedication.

At this time, two areas remain impassable due to broken electrical wires: a section of Peat Moss Road and Concession 4 (between Boundary Road and Concession 9).

An update will follow later today.
