2026 Volunteer Recognition Brunch and Curran Community Hall Naming in Honour of Jean-Yves Lalonde
In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet hosted a brunch to recognize and thank those who generously give their time and energy to the community. It is thanks to these dedicated individuals, who organize and support local events, that we continue to enjoy a vibrant and engaged community life. A total of 170 people attended the sixth edition of the Volunteer Brunch, held at the Jean-Yves-Lalonde Community Hall in Curran.
On the same occasion, the hall was also officially renamed. The Volunteer Brunch was followed by the naming ceremony of the Curran Community Hall in honor of Jean-Yves Lalonde, recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement” award.
His family was present to pay tribute to him during this emotional moment. Outside, the hall now displays its new name, while at the entrance a commemorative plaque accompanied by a photo has been installed to recognize his outstanding contribution to the community.
As part of the brunch, the following individuals were recognized in the category “Outstanding Volunteer who has distinguished themselves within the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet”: Éric Carrière for the village of Alfred; Roch Houle (posthumously) for the village of Curran; Jacques Lavoie for the village of Lefaivre; Chantal Mainville for the village of Plantagenet; Andréanne Lortie for the village of Treadwell; and Pierre Viau for the village of Wendover.

A heartfelt thank you was extended for the exceptional contributions of the following young volunteers: Mathys Rochon-Côté for the village of Alfred; Danika Nadon for the village of Curran; Rosaline Pigeon for the village of Lefaivre; Catherine Bruneau for the village of Plantagenet; and Annabelle Major for the village of Wendover.
Lifetime Achievement
Finally, the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet wishes to highlight the exceptional contribution of the late Jean-Yves Lalonde of Curran, recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement” award.
Mr. Jean-Yves Lalonde, originally from Curran, was a deeply committed member of his community. He devoted more than 33 years of his life to the field of education, leaving a lasting impact on many generations through his dedication.
He also distinguished himself in municipal politics, serving as Mayor of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet from 2003 to 2014. He also served twice as Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, in 2007 and 2011.
Beyond his official roles, Mr. Lalonde was deeply involved in community life. He actively contributed to the Optimist Club, the Golden Age Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Saint-Luc Parish. His presence and commitment made him a pillar of the Curran community.
He passed away on April 20, 2024, at the age of 74, leaving behind an important legacy marked by service to others and a deep love for his community.
At the initiative of his wife, Mrs. Ginette Savage-Lalonde, and with the support of more than 126 citizens, a petition requesting the naming of the hall was submitted in his memory. This strong gesture reflects the lasting impact he had on the community. In recognition, the community hall was officially renamed in his honour.
