Hen Coop Permit Application

I, name of applicant, of the Township of Alfred-Plantagenet, do solemnly declare:

That I am the applicant for the grant of a permit authorizing me to keep backyard hens pursuant to By-Law # within the Township of Alfred-Plantagenet now and hereafter in force. I undertake to conform to the terms; conditions and regulations set out in By-Law #2013-53 including:

• The keeping of roosters is strictly prohibited.
• A limit of four (4) hens will be permitted on each residential property.
• Hens shall be kept in their coop between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
• Coops must be kept in a clean and sanitary condition at all times, free of vermin, obnoxious smells and substances.
• Hens must be provided with access to feed and clean water at all times; such feed and water shall be kept in solid containers.
• Uneaten feed shall be removed in a timely manner.  All stored manure shall be covered by a fully enclosed structure.  No more than three (3) cubic feet of manure shall be stored.  All other manure not used for composting or fertilizing shall be removed.
• The slaughtering of hens is prohibited.
• The selling of eggs or other products derived from hens is prohibited.  
• All hens must be kept securely in a hen coop or run at all times.
• Hen coop and runs are not permitted in any front or side yard.
• Hen coop and runs shall be located 5 meters from any property line.
• Only one hen coop and run is permitted on a property.
  All deceased hens shall be disposed of promptly in a sanitary manner.
• Every person who holds a hen coop license shall allow, at any reasonable time, a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer or other authorized employee or agent of the Township to inspect the property, other than any room or place used as a dwelling, to determine whether all requirements of this by-law are being complied with.
• A change in occupancy or ownership shall make the hen coop license null and void.
• No owner shall cause or permit his or her hen to become public nuisance by persistently clucking.

I understand that I must comply with all applicable regulations and requirements of:

1. Applicable By-Laws of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet; and
2. Applicable Provincial and Federal Acts and regulations made under such an Act;
